Democrats, Progressives and independents:
consider the
following facts...

• In 2002, 57 percent of Vermonters voted for a progressive voice in the lieutenant governor’s office, with 25 percent voting for Anthony Pollina and 32 percent for Democrat Peter Shumlin. Conservative Republican Brian Dubie won with only 41 percent of the vote.

• Of the two Democratic candidates for lieutenant governor, one is a complete unknown with no political experience, the other is a former state representative with no statewide name recognition.

• Vermont Lieutenant Governor Brian Dubie is anti-choice, pro-nuke, against same-sex unions and for the Iraq War. His right-wing views are out of step with even Vermont’s mainstream Republicans— and he is a heartbeat away from the governor’s office.

• Gaye Symington is a smart, progressive Democrat who has served as Speaker of the House for the past six years. She would make an excellent governor.

Pollina and Symington can both win in November!

Vermont needs progressive leadership at the top levels of its government. The trouble is, there are two excellent people running for governor who will split the vote in November and guarantee Republican Jim Douglas another two years in office. At the same time, no well-known Democrat is running for lieutenant governor, all but guaranteeing Republican Brian Dubie a fourth term.

You don’t have to choose!
Whether you support Democrat Gaye Symington or independent Anthony Pollina, there is something very tangible you can do to make a difference in Vermont politics: write in Anthony Pollina as the Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor in the primary on September 9.

If we hand Anthony Pollina the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor, he will be sorely tempted to abandon his pursuit of the governor's office and begin campaigning for an office that he would have an excellent chance of winning. With him out of the governor's race, Gaye Symington would herself have an excellent chance of winning.

Can we do this?
Yes! We asked the Secretary of State’s office and they told us so. Click here to see their response.

What can you do?
Lots! In addition to writing in Pollina on September 9, we have a bunch of ideas for you here.

You have nothing to lose!
If you vote for Anthony Pollina in the Democratic primary, it doesn't take anything away from his campaign for governor. And since he will be running  against Democrats in the primary, he can’t be a "spoiler" who’ll hand the election to the Republicans.
